The Jack & Jill competitions allow you as an individual to register without a partner. But don't worry, you will be assigned a partner on the competition floor. There will be several partner changes during the preliminary and semifinal rounds done by the MC. As a competitor, you are scored individually on various components of the dance, for instance:
- Timing
- Technique
- Teamwork
The once scoring the highest will be called back later to dance in a final round where they will be teamed up with a partner for the final. In the finals, you are scored as one couple.
Jack & Jill competitions are formed to demonstrate skills in spontaneous west coast swing dancing with a variety of partners. Remember the saying; "West coast swing is a social dance that you can compete in".
WSDC points will be granted based on the number of competitors in each division. You can compete in either role. But, to be able to compete in both roles, you need to compete in different divisions. Divisions and points needed to compete in each category is as follows:
- Newcomer: Beginner first-time competitor or have earned no points
- Novice: Have earned less than 16 Novice points, Newcomer points are not required
- Intermediate: Have earned 16 or more Novice points
- Advanced: Have earned 30 or more Intermediate points
- All-Star: Have earned 45 or more Advanced points
*Petitions - A competitor with exceptional circumstances may submit a formal petition for a level change. Petitions must be submitted no less than 48 hours before the competition begins. Dancing in the wrong division without a successful prior petition may incur disqualification. Petitions can be submitted for one skill level up
Strictly Swing
The Strictly Swing competitions are designated to show a competitors social dance skills with a specific partner. Competitors enter together and compete as a couple.
